I know you asked Gadfly but I do happen to have an answer for this question which I found in a book entitled "what the bible really says about homosexuality." In the book it states that the reason homosexuality was considered an abomination was because homosexuality was often practiced by the gentiles in their rituals and daily lives and the Jews were not to do anything that the gentiles did. Or at least it was something along those lines. I'd have to look it over to get the details but I'd have to see if I can find the book at a library or something.

There is no reason given in the Bible.

I didn't think there was, but I don't know the Bible as well as others in this forum.
Homosexuality is not referenced in the 10 commandments or Jesus' Sermon on the Mount (correct me if I'm wrong), and yet some religions really latch on to that Old Testament quote about two men sleeping together being an abomination and pass serious judgment on others because of it. If it wasn't important enough to be included in the 10 commandments or the Sermon on the Mount, why is there so much focus on it I wonder. |

No, of course I don't think slavery is ok. But for example there are a lot of Bible passages which insinuate that women should be subservient, etc. and we have moved passed those because as you say time changes, morals change, the focus changes. I hope someday we can move passed this idea of homosexuality being evil too.
