If we are speaking literally then God is clearly not love since both concepts contain characteristics not contained by the other. If we are speaking metaphorically then this is one metaphor that is more appropriate for creating an aura of mystery than enlightenment and so not one that I find particularly useful.

It is difficult to comprehend God.
If you think of him as having all the attributes that would come with total Love, most of Jesus Teachings start to make sense.
However if you are more of an Old Testament mind, you would see things very differently.
Those religions that couple God with Love have a head start in understanding his true nature.

It makes total sense to me. The TTC encourages me that God isn't just Love, it's perfect balance... and somehow that force is benevelent. This is my opinion. But I hope we're speakin the same language! It'd be cool to think we had similar ideas about the One.
