If you hadn't read it before, you were being original. Your post made me think of it, that's all. Maybe it goes to show great minds (you and Novalis) think alike.

All living things have spirit, God energy that gives a form life.
Humans do not necessarily have spirit, each of our living cells have it. Humans have a separate form of spirit called a soul which is sentient God energy. |

I tend to associate "soul" with the sort of life or natural function of a living entity. The "soul" of a human being is essentially that of a rational animal, with all of its human capacities, ways of growing and developing, and requirements of surviving and flourishing. The soul is "what it is to be that sort of living being". Soul could be taken to mean the "life" of a being.
"Spirit" refers to one's psyche, especially as it relates to conscious awareness. Spirit is an aspect of the human soul. It is one's "inner life". When I refer to myself as "spiritual", I mean that I have a concern for the development of my "inner life". I seek to develop my awareness and understanding of the issues of life so that I may grow in wisdom, gain efficacy, and see myself with earned self-respect. Since spirit is an aspect of soul, everything that is "of the spirit" is also "of the soul". However, there may be things "of the soul" that are not "of the spirit". I suppose digestion may count as an example. eudaimonia, Mark Last edited by eudaimonia; 06-10-2007 at 05:09 AM. |
