The individual worshiper in western religious orthodoxy is not allowed to share identity with the divine. "Jesus" died for your sins, but you are not Jesus. The "Holy Trinity" dwells in you, but you are not the Holy Spirit. The "Father" created the heavens and the Earth, but you are not the Father. The three together are the Trinity and the object of worship, but you are not the Trinity.

I call it "false" monotheism as opposed to "true" or "absolute" monotheism. Trinitarian theology could not be recognized by anyone as monotheism if it were not for people saying that it is, forcing a square peg into a round hole. False monothesim is the affirmation of one god whilst adding a whole host of other divine creatures like Satan, angels, etc, and is really henotheism. True monotheism would only recognize one divine being with one person.

I have to respectfully disagree. While I'm not familiar with the Catholic concept of the Trinity, if one thinks of Being, Consciousness and Intelligence as three aspects of his existence, I can easily see how God can understood as both one and three: the first is being and the others have being, yet, they are one and inseparable; they can be conceived as eternally co-existing and not at all henotheistic. (It is a concept that can be deveolped much further, but that's for another discussion.)

On the other hand, absolute monotheism comes at a high price. It brings with it philosophical problems, like the problem of evil and its making God so remote, so entirely other, as to be rendered irrelevant to life as we live it.

Trinity means Tri-Unity.

God is a Trinity, three-in-one and one-in three, and the one in the middle died for me!

God is divine and not a 'creature' for He was not created but has always existed, "His goings forth are from everlasting." "Satan, angels, etc." ARE creatures, they were created by God, and they are in no way divine.

But the question is, is it "Unity", the concept spoken about by others in religious concepts, i.e. is it the same "Unity"?
