Default A Chorus Line Revival

Anyone seen it? I've heard so-so things about it from a friend in New York. I heard snippets of the cast recording and wasn't too impressed.

And please don't mention the movie. I will rage.

I hope to see it while it's still out in NYC. Not only do I love the stage show by itself, but it's intriguing to see the little girl from Curly Sue all grown up and playing the part of "Christine."

At least that's what I've heard.

I didn't think the movie was all that horrible. *ducks and offers olive branch* It was actually my first introduction to the musical and stands by itself as a pretty engaging storyline. It's a very bad adaptation of the original stage show with the entire montage of "Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen......" taken out (which is kind of like, you know, the core of the show). And having Cassie singing "What I Did for Love" was lame considering what it really meant in the stage version with Diana leading the entire cast.

I also played the part of "Connie" in a local production last year. I liked the stage version of her much better...........she was a tad bit annoying in the movie.

But I understand your distaste for it. I know too many people who felt that the movie took the spirit of the show out for the sake of some nifty '80s choreography and to show off that one guy who played Richie and his enormous talent. "Surprise" was a stupid song, but was a great showcase for his singing and dance technique.

And...........I have to give props to Michael Douglas. He was awesome as "Zach."

It's a fantastic and dynamic show. It'd be hard to totally mess it up, so I'm giving the NYC cast the benefit of the doubt.

Peace,
Mystic

I have to say - I don't know anything worth mentioning.

I just wanted to thank you for putting "One" in my head now.

I'll probably just get it out of my mind and somebody will start a thread on Barry Manilow

S'okay. I just hate all the scary 80s clothes and dancing. I guess the choreographer was the same guy that did Flashdance, so that tells you something. And I wanted to kill them for cutting so many good songs. "Sing" is hilarious and apparently they thought "Surprise" was better?

True. My beef with his presence is that they made the relationship between Zach and Cassie the forefront when it wasn't anywhere near as important in the stage version (at least this is my understanding of the stage version's plot, as I've never been fortunate enough to see it, so correct me if I'm wrong). The show is about love, just not that kind. "What I Did for Love" is not about her waxing sentimental over Zach.
