What is the origin of the Ying-Yang symbol. I'm pretty sure its from taoism if i'm wrong tell me. But where did it come from? The moon in the night sky?

this is actually quite important, since it means that lao tzu or taoism does not introduce the yin-yang concept, but rather uses a symbol known to most people at the time.

why is that important? because it means that the yin-yang is just an image, like the wheel in verse 11. it's a way of explaining something, rather than the explanation itself.

How does it follow that it is "just an image" for being introduced earlier rather than later? Isn't it as much (or as little) "just an image" one way as the other?

yes - sloppy wording on my part.

cross over 'just'. i was trying to point out that the yin-yang to me isn't the explanation, but a way of explaining, or pointing towards a wisdom that is difficult to put into words but easy to experience.
