People who express an interest in Taoism sometimes say that the world is perfect or something to that sentiment e.g. everything is as it is and as it should be. I was wondering if others had come across this. What do you make of it?

In a metaphysical sense perhaps, but we don't live in a metaphysical world.
Voltaire's Candide is a largely a parody of this philosophy. Check it out. It's a good read. |

I might. I just read a synopsis of the book. Sounds interesting but I'm not sure I would find anything I'm not already very familiar with.
I'm reaching out here, not sure what I'm asking. Taoism suggests that there is a way to be, a way that things should be, and in a deep sense actually are.

It is as it must be. Hmmm. As it is, should be or should not be have no relevance? Words really are troublesome
![]() The world is not perfect, it is not imperfect; it is as it is and it is nothing like it. Any interpretation of this leads astray? No way to defend against reality, no way to attack it. The Way is not a choice or a preference or a doctrine or a quality? I woke up yesterday and I was happy. There was no escape from sadness, and thus it wasn't really sadness and it wasn't really happiness. It was like being the right person, in the right place, in the right time; having always been so. Without difference there is no right and wrong person, place or time. The whole world turns inside out and yet nothing changes. Ahh this is pointless. Wampus is having a good time while he is having a tough time, that is all. ![]()

I have a little card on the dash of my jeep that says the following . . .
I am the place where God shines through, He and I are one, not two. He wants me here and as I am, I shall not fret, nor willfully plan. And if I remain still and free, He will do his work, through me. |

(confused?) I'll take it in two different ways here: (God believers): If God is all knowing and has a plan for all things, then everything is as it should be right now for it is God's plan to be the way it is at any given time. (Atheists): If there is no God, then things just are what they are. It doesn't matter what they are, it just matters what it is for the time you are here. Thus, everything is what it is by being what it is and that is the way things should be while here. Hope that helps. As YmirGF has stated Quote:

He does indeed want me here, now, as I am. We think that if we just get a little more holy. Or a little kinder we will be where we are meant to be. But Here and Now is all we can live.

I think it has something to do with how things SHOULD be. Things are as they are. Not as they SHOULD be.

Everything that is now forms the things that should be or could be. This has a little predestination or destiny sound to it.
