Thats who I thought it was, I love Huston Smith!!!! He's the reason I wanted to go to Berkeley.
I read his book "The World's Religions." But I'm sure he talks about the same stuff. He does know what he's talking about. I love to hear him talk to, he's partially deaf so his voice sounds real cool. ![]()

Did you ever know that you're my hero... So do you actually disagree with his portrayal of taoist magic, or do you just think that regardless of how far it is from the Tao Te Ching, it's still better than Christianity?

I agree that it is far from what Lao Tzu talked about. And even though it is a little far out there, I do believe it is still much more accurate than christianity. So I agree with him.

More accurate in what way? Spiritually, I would agree with you.
Should this be moved to comparative religions?

Nah, we're still discussing taoism. But yes, spiritually. They're perceptions of the spirit world are quite accurate. They go beyond the wall with their rituals and superstitions, but still, the basics are very accurate.

True. But I think it's hard to be Taoist in general and not have a good understanding of the spirit world. And I don't like adding bells and whistles to something. Same with Christianity - the basic message is wonderful, but it's been so perverted.

I too think it's quite natural to have a good understanding of the spirit world for a taoist. I also agree that christianity has been changed too much. Christianity gets too complex, taoism is the exact opposite. The spirit world is quite simple, which is why some christians don't understand it too well.

But they've obviously tried their best to make it complex. I find it remarkable - and bad - that that happened. So do you think, if Christianity had more blatantly addressed the spirit world, it would not have become so perverted?
