howdy folks...not to impose as i know this is a discussion forum for only Shi'ite Muslims but i thought since ya'll were talking about Judaism i could interject a comment
Traditional Judaism teaches that Abraham had the Written Torah and Oral Torah and knowledge of G-d and monotheism. it wasn't called Judaism, per se, but it was the same practice as those who would come after him. and i have to agree w/ john313 when he says: Quote:
thanks, sorry for sticking my nose in.

2- There is a verse in Quran that shows that there are Christians who will remain following the real teaching of Jesus till the end of the world. Nevertheless, they will not considered as true followers according to Islam unless they recognize Prophet Mohammed as an Apostle of Allah who was sent to the whole world. 3- The scholar i told you about didn't speak out from his mind but through some proofs he discovered but personally i don't think he is right because most of scholars said it was a true hadith.

wow what a nice thread!
1- the shias dont agree with the fact about abdullah ibn saba. Actually it is a known fact for the non moslems as well as moslems that islam was one but after the demise after the prophet. Hereafter some chose to follow the man chosen caliphate and others chose to follow the imamate. Those who chosed to follow the caliphate are called sunnis nowadays and those who followed the imamate are called shia. so they abdullah bin saba thing is fabricated. 2- u call shias rafidi what does that mean? please enlighten thats something new for me! with all respects |

I read a book recently by Abu Hamid Al Ghazali, widely accepted as a Sunni scholar. Interestingly in the 900 year old book, he refers to 'sunnites' and Ali as the Imam. It seems that the supposéd division between we muslims was not defined clearly as they are meant to be today.

thats quite interesting please post it here if you can!
All though they were quite clear back then! maybe he accepted ali as his imam since throughout history many shias have been living opressed and had to hide their identities so maybe Ghazali declared his faith! |

I know that the Shi'ie Ali existed and had troubles with the Ummayids, but I think that it is actually maybe the concept of 'sunnite' that I found interesting. Although I am Sunnah, I like to think that if I had been there 1300ish years ago when people had stood against the house of the prophet, I would have stood with the cousin, the daughter, and grandchildren of the prophet. Allah Alim.
I will look for the passage now brother.

I am saying that had I been Muslim at the time that 'Ali and his family were undergoing trouble, even tho in 2006/1426 I am Sunnah, I would like to think I would have stood with 'Ali, Fatima, Hassan and Hussein.
(P.S. Scanning the book atm)

"And why did 'Ali - God be pleased with him! - not do that, since he was the first and greatest of the Imams?"
Al Ghazali, 1999, al- Munqidh min al- Dalal, translated by McCarthy, R. J., Fons Vitae, KY, USA, (p.47).
