Shamanism and the rise of the Mongol Nation (beliefs, pagan)

Greetings,
I am a Unitarian Universalist and am writing an article concerning the religious beliefs of Genghis Khan and the Mongol peoples of the 12th &13th century.I am researching the influence of their religious beliefs on their conquest of so much territory-it is possible of course that the form of Shamanism or Paganism which inspired them did not influence them in this respect.Ideas welcome. I have already noticed the book 'In Search of Genghis Khan' by Tim Severin, (1991) which raised the contention that Genghis Khan was a shaman.

affraid i don't know much about Genghis Khan, other than he was rather lacking in height ...... i don't suppose that helps

I'm sorry, I seem to be missing the question. Are you asking about Tibetan shamanism? Or shamanism's influence on Ghengis Khan? (I could help you out with the unicorn's influence, but I may be lacking in the other areas, hehee.)

Thanks for the reply. Not really talking about Tibetan shamanism unless there are suggestions that Tibetan Shamanism would have influenced the beliefs of the Mongol peoples of the 13th century.
There two questions I am looking at, firstly what were the religious beliefs of the Mongol people of the late 12th century/13th century? Writers have claimed that shamans played a role within their tribes, and that they revered a pagan diety.Secondly did their religious beliefs help shape the Mongol leaders' desire to conquer large amounts of territory ? I am open to any ideas, thoughts, opinions. I am researching and am not offering any conclusions at this stage. Regards.
