Does anyone have a favorite CD or tape of drums ? I am looking for one and would like to know the names of any that anyone has .
Also I am wondering about rattles . Do others like having them , or are you like me in that you find the sound very distracting ... kinda like finger nails on a blackboard . ![]()

Thank you for your input ES .
I don't think that the Christmas one is quite what I'm looking for . But the Sacred Spirit Drums sound interesting . Amazin lists a track as " Path With Heart ", how fast is the beat ? { my audio is down , so I can't listen to it ** . BTW , I should tell people the CD that I got . It is the CD that comes with the book " Spirit Medicine " by Hank Wesselman and his wife . I find the beat too fast for what I'm looking for . I'm looking for something with the same rhythem as a heart beat , or close .

instead of a cd, get a drum.
They go as fast or as slow as you want them too. And "live" music has a higher meditative quality than anything "canned" gauranteed. If you are not a "drummer" i reccoment a frame drum, it will have a mallet and is very easy to find the natural rhythm to it, most are made by natives, who put energy into it. Or creat your own tool for growth by putting energy into it yourself. If you are not that handy, you can get a kit. |

Thanks anami .
I could make a drum . Playing it would be another matter . But I'm not sure if a drum would actually help me and don't want to put that much effort into it yet . I also think that at this point , beating the drum would be a distraction . But thanks for your input .I'm experimenting right now . I'm not even sure that what I do is really Shamanic ?

Which is why i suggested a frame drum, you know whith a mallet, bang, bang, bang, bang rinse and repeat. Not a dumbek or something with trills and flourishes. Some drums are made for music, some for prayr. The ones for prayer are very effective And strikilngly easy to play. Beating a drum is a lot less distracting than dealling with a skipping cd Why do you think you need to do something shamanic to include a drum? Maany cultures use drums. ok what are you trying to do? As there are a bazillion drum Cds available in America alone asking for suggestion probably will not give you anything you can actual find, unless it is from k-tel. And no one wants that! Cds of nonmainstream music is kind of hit and miss. Which is why i wonder why people roll around in iron when they could just reach for the gold. |

I don't . But this is a Shamanic Forum , and drums are often used on Shamanic journeys . Again , I don't believe that they are needed , but they are said to help . I am looking for non-mainstream music , and you are correct , it is very much hit and miss . Which is why I am asking for advice and opinions . What may help another , may just lead me to distraction . But I have some idea of which energies I work best with , and as I said , I'm kinda experimenting . ![]()

Feathers was helping me find some drum beats to assist me. She told me that I should look for an "eagle beat", which is, if I remember correctly, four beats per second. She told me it would be of great assistance.
Perhaps you could look for that? (I had little luck, however) Maybe when Feathers gets back, she'll be able to help you. ![]()

hmm... most of the Drum music that I have I got from going to pow-wow's and buying the CD's put out by the attending drums. The plus side to this is you get to hear the drum beforehand.
![]() As for rattles, I personally love them. But then I'm biased ![]() Traditionally rattles were used most of the time in the 'old days'. The big drums are a relitively new thing for most nations. Here on the east coast the most common drums were the 'water drums'. Small drums that used water to help determine the pitch. The largest water drum I've seen is still small enough to be held one handed. Otherwise there were hand drums of various disigns. ![]() Rattles come in many shapes and sounds. I have a gourd rattle with seeds inside, and a Cowrie shell rattle with glass beads in it. I've also used deer hoof rattles, turtle shell rattles and wooden rattles to name a few. wa:do
