To be fundamentalist is to be rigid in your belief, unswayed from strict guidelines of what is correct to believe. Perhaps even too rigid.
To be human is exemplify characteristics that we use to define our-"selves" --everything from honor to disgrace, comedy to tragedy, comfort to panic, etc. Given these definitions, are there people who are too rigid in their beliefs of what it is to be human?

That makes about as much sense as asking "what weighs more, a ton of lead or a ton of feathers?" You have supplied your own definition for what it means to be human. Perhaps a better way to phrase things would be:
Can you be a fundamentalist and be compassionate? Can you be a fundamentalist and be fair minded? Can you be a fundamentalist and be open to new ideas? Can you be a fundamentalist and be any of the above? Then I think we all know the answer to that. ![]()

Quote:
Being "fundamental" is associating oneself with notions of "basic nature." Willamena's definition is fair in that one who claims to be a fundamentalist is going to adhere to only those "basics." There's nothing to say that being compassionate, fair, and/or open is not basic.
