People hate science because it puts proof against hypothetical reasoning and wins every time. However in the past victorious scientists were excommunicated, however, no one cares anymore.

People don't like knowledge when they don't have it, especially if it appears to be the province of snooty, posh, liberal people that annoy them and make them uncomfortable.
People would be more comfortable with knowledge if the US education system would actually teach science. I suspect a lot of high school science teachers wouldn't know a quark from a quarrel.

i just found it really boring in school... it's not that i have an irrational fear of gaining knowledge, it just doesn't interest me.
