Perhaps, one of the best arguments that we are descended from a common ancestor with our nearest relatives the chimpanzees might be that so many of us are quite capable of ignoring mountains of evidence, sound reason, and logic in order to believe that evolution is a junk theory. Only a species that shared a common ancestor with chimpanzees would be capable of that gross of a denial of reality.

I think that creationism is motivated not simply by lazyness but by misinformation. Evolution as most people think of it is incorect at worst and misleading at best. Thus it is easy to shake belief in a poorly taught subject.
