Are you open minded enough to read Richard Dawkins 'The God Delusion'? Could you, given that you know at the outset that it sets out to show the paucity of reason/evidence behind all religions?
Or will you dismiss it without having evaluated the ideas put forward? |

I'm sure that it would be an interesting read, but I do not like Dawkins style. With his views, there is no room for anyone else. I'm not going to go out and buy it, because I don't see Dawkins as worth my time. |

Of course the time argument is a valid one. I have decided never to struggle with a book again as there are too many out there to get through to be struggling with one that I am not enjoying!
As for his style, I am not a huge fan, but he is thorough in giving the reasoning/evidence behind his ideas and is open minded enough to say that if anyone could present any decent evidence (beyond blind faith) for the God Hypothesis he would happily change his mind. |

I would be interested in reading him to hear what all the fuss is about. If what I've heard about the way he says what he has to say is true, I don't imagine I would enjoy his tone, though. 'My way is the only way' doesn't make for delectible reading, whether it's coming from a theist, an agnostic or an atheist.

I would say he is more sympathetic to organized religion than Sam Harris is. They both make good points to fundamentalism, but both of their goals are to basically eradicate religion outright.

I would certainly be interested in reading it.

What's the book about? I know it's about eradicating religion but what are his beliefs?

How wrongly he has been represented then!!
I get no sense of 'my way is the only way' (though I have not yet finished the book). His point is that we have the power to reason and evaluate and that religion does not stand up to reason and evaluation. The faithful tell us that the Bible is 'The Word of God' but where is the evidence for that? He asks some pretty searching questions that I would be interested to hear believers answer. (In the spirit of understanding of course!) ![]() |
