Yahoo news reports:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060901/...ment_wilson_dc E.O. Wilson says that both science and religion can work together to save the envirorment in the above article. Do you feel the two can ever work in mutual agreeement on perserving the envirorment and if so how? footnotes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Osborne_Wilson http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/ame....eowilson.html |

Perhaps. but I'd have to be convinced Science really has a working interest in saving the environment first. Genetic modification alters it irreversibly, one example of God's sacred Creation being corrupted by the paradigm.
Unfortunately, as long as Abrahamic religion is dominant in the field, Man has full authority to exploit the environment and consume as and when he likes. The Bible says the Earth was created for him to do with according to his desires, so don't expect right-wing literalists to get psyched about saving the trees anytime soon. Or ever, in fact. All in all, I doubt there'll ever be serious co-operation between Science and Religion to preserve our natural world. They'd rather Master reality than live with it. |

Maybe, though (appart from the U.U's)I see no religion having much to contribute to the salvation of our planet.
what I found most revealing is that it sounds as if Mr Wilson is not a true atheist; but as he says himself "A provisional deist"........now, what does that mean ? - Now I am, Now I'm not ? Quote:

What I've seen in Colorado Springs within the last year are some Evangelical leaders coming out as pro environment.
The notion that the Christian religion cannot support an environmental movement because it hasn't in the past ignores the whole history of that religion supporting things that were new in the past, such as its support for public hygiene circa 1880.

I think in the bible says The earth is created for man and We can do whatever we damn well feel like with it.
or something to that effect
