Sunstone, although I agree wholeheartedly, I am a teensy bit shocked. Is it because Tom Cruise is an international celebrity that makes him "fair game" for negative comments? After all, Mr. Cruise and his fellow Scientologist could be right. N'est pas?

You should report me if you think I'm over the line, Paul, and let the mods sort it out. Until and unless they call me on it, I stand behind my opinion that Cruise's opinions of science are crap.

Sunstone, many people would claim that scienctists are cold pedantic people who constantly attack religion, but that is simply not true. Most scientists study the world around them in a rational way, and many follow their own private religions. Of course some scientists do perform cruel experiments, and this is a cause for concern, but we are still happy to cash in on the new discoveries they make. The question of animal testing is certainly a good topic for debate, a subject on which I feel a compromise is necessary.

The reverse falshood is just as common. Everyone seems to view their own groups accomplishmnts over everyone elses. That's why Gutenberg is credited as the inventor of th eprinting press even though it was actually invented by the Chinese in 1041.

It's easy for people to look at the European Renessance and overlook how much of it was simply Europe's rediscovery (usually through the Moors in Spain) of ideas and technology that the Muslim world had had throughout the dark ages.

It's eqaually easy to forget that the Muslims were responsible for some, but not all, of the ideas and technology in question; having kept some from the time of the Romans, and having gotten some from other cultures (while inventing some themselves).

Certainly the pre-Roman ancient world owes as much to the fertile crescent as it does to the better known Greeks... but be wary of thinking that it's only others who see the universe with themselves at the center. I think Yeshua said something about the splinter in your neighbor's eye?
