IF truth trumps deity, then why?
IF deity trumps truth, then why? Are they co-equal? If so, please explain? For the purposes of this debate, let's specify when answering whether we are talking about conditional ("scientific") truth or absolute truth, so as not to avoid needless confusion. Thank you.

Deity is truth. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth.........."

God keeps me truthful more so than anything else, so I voted that they are equals.

I believe that eventually, long after we are all forgotten dust, objective scientific "truth" will finally merge with "absolute truth" and we will finally have the answers to the questions we have all been trying to find. Whether or not we will still be Homo sapiens at that point I don't know.
So to answer the original question: they are the same; we just haven't figured it out yet

i voted co-equal
Phil, can you explain your definition of truth to me in a different way, if possible? i'm just not making any sense of it at the moment (which is not a reflection of your OP, it's a reflection of me staying up stupidly late!) - more specifically, what is the difference between conditional and absolute truth? and how does your definition take pragmatic truth into account?

One of the names of Allah is Al Haqq (The Truth) so I put co-equal as that was the nearest. Actually they are, thus, one in the same.

Truth comes before Deity. (In my opinion.) If my goddesses or gods demanded that I believe in something that isn't true, they wouldn't be my deities anymore. Is it possible to deify truth?

Truth trumps deity.
To be more precise. The pursuit of knowledge through reason is better than the pursuit of the divine through spirituality. Sometimes a good movie is better than both. |
