Will science ever discover how life originated?
Is it possible to do so using scientific methods of investigation, or is there some inherent impossibility to discovering the most likely scenario for the origin of life?

No,
It can hypothesise and weigh evidence towards any particular theory until we finally manage to exterminate ourselves... but it can never prove any of those things beyond doubt. I was going to say reasonable doubt... but then someone would be bound to start an argument about what is reasonable... which is kinda the crux of what is my point. The proofs in scientific cases are subjective to the way they are applied to the theory... that's too many things and far too complicated. The world is a simple place.

Yes, I think so. There is already a great deal that we do understand about the origin of life, and although there is a great deal we do not understand, I believe this question is within the realms of human knowledge.
On the other hand I don’t believe that human science will ever be able to fully understand the origin of the universe. I may be wrong, but I believe that is ultimately beyond human understanding. But if all you are talking about is the development of biological life, that I think we can figure out.

No matter what science creates there will be those who say it is insufficient.
If we make a simple life form some will say we didn't create the actual life but just a vehicle animated by a still mysterious life-force. Some will say so what-- it can never evolve into anything complex. Some will say we just assembled the materials and God created the life. Like evolution, no matter how much data and understanding science amasses, there will be those who twist, deny or misinterpret it. |
