The conclusion of that article uses faulty logic. It implies that it cannot be chance that the universe and its laws are so beautifully designed to harbor its life. What it fails to see is that the appearance of the universe being designed for life is that life is a result of the universe, and thus the universe has shaped life by its very existance, by being the origin of this life, and having an effect on its development. The same faulty logic is often used by creationists and intelligent design proponents in their "arguments" against evolution. It also fails to see that only very very few planets of the huge amount of them in the universe are capable of harboring life, which goes perfectly along with these described "small chances", and along with that it fails to take into account the factor of time.

If I pour a thousand ping-pong balls into a barrel they will arrange themselves in a precise geometric pattern every time. Magic? Intelligent Design? Am I God?
No -- This is the inevitable result of the blind laws of physics. Order and complexity does not necessitate a conscious, magical Agent. Why do people have this need to posit an invisible, magical being behind everything too complex to be immediately apprehended? |
