The debates between Religion and Science suprise me. They are the same
Religion is a way of explaining things that are. When early man gazed at the stars, or at rocks, or tree sap, he tried to explain them in the best way he knew how. They had no conception of atoms or cells or physics or chemistry, so they theorized the best they could. They assumed that God (or gods) created everything and made everthing work a certain way. As more questions were asked, people tried to incorperate them into the system they all ready had. Why is the sky blue? Because god must have made it that way.Why do we dream? they are visions from god! we must follow them! Why is their a sun and a moon? They must living things, etc, much like scientists do today.example: If some one discovers a fish, they wont assume that its bread from mars. The theories kept getting more complex until you have many religions or theories developing of why we exist, eventually incorperating things that ease peoples minds, like the beatifull loving generous giving god who loves - then eveolving into a system of law and control - who will send to rot screaming in vomiting agony for the rest of your life in boiling hell if you disobay. Religion's roots (for the most part) are the primitive version of Science; explaining things that are |

Well, yes, they're both explanations of the world. But that's a little like saying that Catholicism and Protestantism are the same thing (both being Christian), so why should there be debate between them? There are differences, and some people see them as very important differences.

Yes, and just as shamans have been replaced by doctors, and duels have been replaced by courtrooms, so should these primitive superstitions be replaced by an understanding of the natural sciences.
We are advancing in areas of physics, medicine, engineering, etc. . . . . why can't we, as a society, adance in religious/cultural areas to the point where people stop beleiving that some entity they can not perceive is telling them to kill others who don't worship said undetectable being? B/ |

I am normally pretty quiet. Unless I get a cup of tea in my hand. Then I am that.
