The Great State of Kansas is now going to entertain arguments to redefine the term "science" in an effort to introduce the argument for Intelligent Design in their science classes. If this weren't so disturbing and pitiful, it would be laughable. First, the Senate ethics committee redefines the word "ethics" to protect Tom Delay, and now we have the religious right bastardizing the very meaning of the word "science". Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.
Check out this article, from yahoo news: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...nsas_evolution I can honestly say that if I lived in Kansas, I'd be looking for the next bus out of the state. Upon reflection, of all of the times we've tried to enlighten some of the religious zealots on this site as to how logic works, and how it is applied - I am beginning to think it is all negotiable. Letting politicians decide what science is or isn't is brain dead. In the 500 year history of science, when was the last time a politician made a significant contribution to what we know of this universe?

A valid point, Sunstone, but in this case, I believe that the decision may be before the Kansas Board of Edumacation.

A quote from the article:
"I think it will be resolved in the scientific community," he said. "I think (intelligent design), in 10 years, will be a very respectable science program." What a great quote - effectively, this guy is saying that "We acknowledge that this is a pseudoscience that is bogus, but we want to go ahead and teach it, on the off chance that someone can find some evidence to support it in the future." What horsedung. TVOR

This is a list of over 600 sciences.
Why not add one more? Come on, this is on the list exobiology: study of extraterrestrial life why not the study of intelligent design? Last edited by EnhancedSpirit; 05-15-2005 at 08:45 PM. |

Exobiology: The existence of alien life can be tested and verified/denied with the scientific method. Intelligent Design: Cannot be tested or verified/denied with the scientific method. That's all that is necessary to realize that ID is NOT a science, by any approximation.

That's a pretty neat site, Enhanced Spirit. I like the opening paragraph: This list defines over 600 sciences, arts and studies of various degrees of respectability and rarity, ranging from the common and esteemed |
