Ok perhaps a Christian or other Theist could explain this for me.
Theres a universe out there.. presumably empty of life.. there certainly appears to be little on the planets we can see.. soooo.. what exactly did God put them there for (if we assume a Creationist POV)? Did God intend for us to eventually go forth and explore these worlds? ..and perhaps even colonise them? If so why is such a command not mentioned in religious texts? Or is perhaps the 'promised land' somewhere in space? Would be interesting to have a Theists point of view on this anyhow...

A new planet has just been discovered too in the next Solar System (I can't remember where I read this). It's kind of hard to imagine the never ending eternal void of space with an endless number of solar systems, planets and possibilities put there just for us to look at and ponder.

There is no life out there that we can see. I believe there are other planets out there with life. We just can't see them. I also believe that spirits can choose what planet to reincarnate too.

I am not sure of the theological implications of life on other planents, but given the awesome number of possibilities, I think that there is life out there, and perhaps humanity will make contact before we or our planent dies out. Granted, we will have to make great strides forward with technology, but frankly we don't know how much there is to know about the possibilites of space travel: we are limited by current technology and imagination. In the Bible, the planets and stars in space are used as a standard for the great unknown. In the ancient mind, only God could really know what is out there. The unknowable stars and planents symbolized the glory of the incomprehensible God, who revealed Himself as the Creator of these wonders.
Ge 1:1 - Show ContextIn the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, De 10:14 - Show Context heavens belong to the Lord your God, the earth with all that is in it, 1Ch 29:11 - Show Context Yours, O Lord, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Ps 8:1 - Show Context O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. My personal favorite is this one: Ps 19:1 - Show Context The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.

Tawn,
The Bible is a human-centered revelation of God's character. In it, He reveals what we need to know about life here on earth, and for the Christian, its entire message is centered on the person and role of Jesus Christ. If life is discovered on other planents, the message of the Bible does not change: its focus is on Israel and the promised land is clearly the area known as Palestine here on earth, and Christians beleive that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Abrahamic promise, and that wouldn't change, either. One does not need to know how to relate to life on other planets in order to assume the promised land in Palestine or to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord: one needs simply to believe that Israel is the object of YHWH's salvation history, and that Jesus Christ came to fulfill the law as the Son of God - it is earth and human-centered.

Perhaps if the chrisitan view is right he made a planet, put life on it, and wasn't satisfied..So he tried again......
Who knows...... There are too many questions about our own earth to be wondering about other galaxies.

I bet if we got a message from that planet we would have something like warp drives within 10 years.
