GC and I are looking into new computers, has anyone here had any run-ins (good or bad) with Acer? I hadn't heard of the brand until today, and I don't want to spend money on something that's just going to burn out in a year or two.
We don't plan to do anything heavy with it, just internet, microsoft office, some recording and minor graphics work, along with listening to music and watching movies. They're not that expensive, so they've captured our interest.

Dell are the best, but my friend has an Acer and it is good.
A lot of the other better-known brands such as Samsung, Toshiba etc use pretty poor parts in their computers. Acer somehow manage to get the best parts, but still provide a good price on most of their products. My friend has had one for about 2 years and it's never had anything wrong with it. Highly recommended all in all! |

About 10 years ago, one of my dorm-mates had an Acer. It was acting funky, so she re-installed Windows using the CDs that came with the computer. That didn't clear up the problem, so she phoned tech support... and was told that by re-installing Windows, she had voided her warranty. This was only a few months after she bought the machine.
I haven't dealt with them since, so I don't know if they've improved their customer service in the decade since then. And the realization that I was a university frosh more than 10 years ago suddenly makes me feel old. ![]() Last edited by 9-10ths_Penguin; 07-11-2008 at 10:08 PM. |

Friend Gentoo,
Most brands sell in India including Acer? Personally have no feedbacks IN or AGAInst Acer. Feel that since the components of all computers are manufactured by well known brands the assemblers like Acer etc are only for marketing and after-sales support that as customers we shouls look into. Checkout their local service centres and a visit throws up with the problems the are having at hand; gives us the picture. Cheap and Best; never much together. Love 7 rgds |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dell are not the best, they are simply the cheapest. Toshiba is good I believe, so are Thinkpads (but you either love those or hate them, no in between) and Vios are good too.

I've had BAD BAD experiences with Vaios! I've had two, and neither lasted to the two year mark... the fans blew on both.
