The truth of the matter is that there is no significant difference between this or that computer. All of these brands that people keep talking about get their parts from the same place. Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway, Fujitsu, Samsung, Acer, Toshiba, Sony etc. etc.... are simply retailers. They purchase individual components from other manufacturers like Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital, MSI, EVGA, ATI, nVIDIA, Corsair, Kingston, Antec etc............. and put them together in their own cases. There are certain exceptions and the exceptions grow with laptops, but on the whole, you're ok with just about any computer you buy assuming you look at the price to specification ratio. If you're looking into laptops, you should focus mainly on battery life, LCD size and overall mass.

A rather important thing to consider especially if you have little or no knowledge of the inner workings of a computer. And lets face it, customer service differs greatly from company to company. Otherwise, I tend to agree.

Sony use cheap, cheap stuff, so do Toshiba, Samsung, all the big brands except Dell really. I've only had one thing go wrong with one of my many dells, and it was partly my fault: I dropped water inside the CD drive and tried to take it out to dry it up. Sadly, I bust the whole thing, but they sent a new one without asking any questions!

Mine is an ACER. And I don't have a problem with it.
My internet won't work in my bedroom all the time, but that's not Acer's fault.

My HP is a lovely laptop. I had a Toshiba and it lasted a good 4 years before the motherboard fried. I really don't like Dells, they seem to use cheap parts and I have never found them that reliable. One of my friends has a laptop, an Inspiration I think and has had quite a few problems with it. Since customer support doesn't concern me this hasn't been an issue. (My dad's job is fixing computers and running a network for local government)
