Instead of feeding the global crisis, they should invest that waste of money in alternative energy resources, or fund scientific research in alternative fuels for transport.
I feel that increasing the oil output will in the end result in more economic ruin when the oil supply finally stops. If they think that another refinery will reduce petrol rpices i think they'll find they're wrong, sadly as the world has definately reached the current peak oil and production will only slow ![]() |

Isn't S. Dakota awefully far from any source of raw petroleum, including Alberta's oil sands?
It seems an odd location, to me. |

Who knows. They can truck it in and refine it.

We have quite a few alternatives already, Zippy. We just lack the incentive to make a serious effort. We tend to wait for a crisis before we get off our butts and act.
Big oil's not going to last that much longer, especially with China and India beginning to adopt our Western lifestyle. We can begin now and make a smooth transition or we can wait for a crisis, errr.. a bigger crisis. As far as your hydro car goes, we could probably double the average mileage of a typical car dealer's inventory simply by exchanging it for a typical European dealer's. No fancy technology needed. Heck back in the early 80s, Datsun's B-210 fastback got 50 MPG, and this was a primative car by today's standards. The BBC sent a reporter to Wolfsberg, or wherever Volkswagen makes its Polo line, a few years ago to buy a Blue Motion model and drive it back to London. It averaged 70 MPG -- and no fancy hybrid tech -- just a straight Diesel. Last edited by Seyorni; 06-10-2008 at 12:58 AM. |
