How much do you know about the Big Rip theory Spinks? And what do you think of it?
I'm trying to understand all the possible end of the universe scenarios, but the stumbling block for me is what happens to spacetime.
Is the existence of spacetime intrinsically linked to the existence of matter?
If the Big Rip destroyed all matter (which I don't understand as I thought energy couldn't be destroyed) and spacetime expanded at an infinite rate, as you suggest above, wouldn't that imply that it (sapcetime) had reached an infinite size, but how can something be infinitely large and actually exist?
Could it be possible that at the moment all matter is eliminated from the universe that spacetime would simply cease to exist too?
