I just got this email today and I thought I'd pass it along for all you freaks like me who enjoy stuff like this:

I hate to be the party pooper, but... according to This BBC News Article (which was posted August 1st, 2003), although Mars was visible to the naked eye and the brightest object in the sky, it was only be about 1/60th the diameter of the moon... you needed a fairly good telescope to view surface details.


There is not a new orbit, apparently... it's an old email or a scam or something going around...

You know what? I remember that and I remember going out to look at it when it was closest to the Earth.... I need to kick somebody for that email. I believe you are right.

The coolest thing we've had in the past year was Jupiter in the Crescent Moon. That was quite the site! I'm glad I work nights so I can see stuff like that. I need to brush up on my PBS Jack Forkheimer show thingy!!!!!

PS- me thinks we need another Comet in the sky soon!
