Now...you can run your car on it?
Ga. Peaches Touted As Future Fuel Source AP - Fri, 4 Aug 2006 05:06:37 -0400 (EDT) By ELLIOTT MINOR Part-time farmer Jimmy Griner hopes his ever-so-fragrant, crystal-clear, 180-proof moonshine can help solve the nation's energy problems.Griner arrived at the Georgia Bioenergy Conference this week carrying of quart of the stuff in a Mason jar. He's licensed to make 10,000 gallons a year of the high-octane elixir that's distilled from fermented Georgia-grown wheat. Sponsored by the University of Georgia, the three-day conference attracted about 500 farmers, scientists, engineers and politicians. Speakers from across the nation and at least one foreign country, Brazil, discussed the future of global energy supplies, the economics of biofuels, energy legislation and Georgia products that could be converted into fuels. Rest of story http://partner.neopets.com/newsArtic...icleId=753791& I particularly like the part later on where the Gov. is talking about a "comprehensive energy strategy" being developed by December of this year. Well, if the "transporation strategy" is any guide, I'll have moved out of the state and died by the time the energy strategy is finished. ![]() Last edited by Booko; 08-04-2006 at 07:43 AM. |

For some, moonshine has never lost its popularity.
It says a lot about a man if he can make his own moonshine. I wonder if that stuff is safe to drink?

There is a county in Virginia that is the moonshine capital of the world. Their economy will certainly get a boost from this, though the illegal stills will still be closed left and right for safety issues.

Very interesting indeed! Ethanol made from home grown sources could certainly reduce our dependence on foreign oil sources, would probably lower the price since the sources are renewable, and would probably be much more environmentally friendly than petrol.
I imagine some engines could be 'tweaked' to run on it, and I know from the auto show several automakers are redesigned engines to run on petro up to E85. Any way, I've never operated a still, but if it'll save me some ca$h in the gas tank, maybe I should fire one up. ![]()

I wonder how the open "open container" laws would come into play when confronted with a tankful of potable ethanol? Are you OK as long as your gas cap is firmly screwed on?

At 180 proof it is most certainly NOT potable. Good God on a pogo-stick are you trying to kill yourself?
Any proof over 160 is acceptable in an engine, the engine does need tuning to enable it to use the stuff efficiently as the 'burn' from the alcohol is quite different from that of petrol. Kiwimac
