Do we know what triggered the Big Bang?
are there any theories that the scientific community is kicking around right now?

Well, I looked at the links, and then I scooted over to Wikpedia and started looking at magnetic monopoles. The article was good, but way too often the Wikpedia noted that they were in need of someone qualified to expanded their article stubs. My surmise is that such qualified people are few and far between.

Yes, and the very informative and entertaining bestselling book The Whole Shebang: A State of the Universe(s) Report does a great job of explaining them to a general audience. There is even an afterward in which the author gives his opinion on what modern cosmology tells us about God, which I gaurantee all (whether theist or nontheist) will find interesting.

If you have faith in the Christian god and thier bible, then the answer to your question would be that "God" was the trigger. And, interestingly enough, possibly the earliest recording of the Big Bang event is found in Genesis 1.
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." - Bang!
"And God said, 'Let there be light', and there was light" - Bang!
"And God said, 'Let there be an expanse (sky). And it was so." - Bang!
"And God said,......'let dry ground appear', and it was so." - Bang!
"Then God said, 'Let the land produce vegetation'." - Bang!
.......etc., etc., etcetera.............

That's funny...I don't recall a firmament anywhere in big bang theory....
