Surely, according to the Bible, Satan lies before Eve does.

I firmly second Fluffy. The Scripture and Christian Tradition makes that very plain.

One more for Satan.... the father of lies.

Wait, does the snake really lie? I mean, it almost seems like it was telling the truth...except for the "you won't die," but I think that means more that they won't die right away, not that they won't die period, seeing as God has no intention of letting them live forever anyway (later on it does have Him worrying that they'll eat from the Tree of Life and live forever)...and they certainly didn't die right away, Adam gets to be what, 800?

Wouldn't it be God who was the first liar? If we're considering Genesis 2:16-17:
2:16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:2:17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. He ate the fruit and lived for 800 years...just a little longer than the day he ate it.

Another way to look at it, and not incompatible with the above, is that as a result of his death, his physical death was made inevitable.

Still, I'm not entirely convinced that the serpent was lying. I mean, you'd think the snake and the humans would be using days like we do, seeing as they're living on Earth, not with God. Heck, maybe the snake was just trying to clarify. Give 'em a chance to make an informed decision, sort of thing.

Course, if you take it in a less literal sense, what the snake was saying implied that you could eat the fruit without consequences, which wasn't true. So I'm not sure if it was an out and out lie, but it certainly was rather deceitful.
