Either that, or you can take it as an indication that the straight-forward literal interpretation isn't the best. God is the source of life, and Adam's sin cut him off from God. Thus, he died in some way by being cut off from God (Spiritual death in the context of my faith).

Another way to look at it, and not incompatible with the above, is that as a result of his death, his physical death was made inevitable.
Good stuff man

God's day does not equal 24 hrs, it equals 1,000 years. Adam died just shy of a day to God.

2 Peter 3:8 But of this one thing be not ignorant, my beloved, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
Also good.

I'm glad there are people out there who adequately defend their faith, by scripture, and rationale!
Seems like there are so many who just believe because they were "taught that way", and they put no actual thought that way. It's not say that that is wrong, but it is dangerous. They're faith can be easily challenged! So kudos to most everybody here on the board!

God didn't lie- Gen 2:17 was talking about spiritual death. God created man perfect for fellowship with him and his sin separated him from God. Humanity became naturally sinful. The first part of Romans 6:23 says "For the wages of sin is death," meaning, eternal separation from God because of sin. But yes, I would say that Satan is the first liar.

I think the real question is, why would god want to withold knowledge from his creations?

The tradition I get my understanding from doesn't say that the fruit was permanently forbidden, but forbidden until they had matured enough to understand it. Like many other things, we had to grow a bit before getting it.

Neither of us has compunction on firearms, but by the same token, I wouldn't put a handgun into the hands of a one year-old. He'd have to grow a bit. It's the same basic concept here...but I realize not everyone agrees with this.

Would you put a loaded gun on a coffee table with a one year old in the house and expect them to not be curious or touch it simply because you told them no- if no, what does that say about the wisdom of "god"?

Well, that seems to back to free will. God created us with the power of choice. It wouldn't make sense for him to give us the power to choose, but give us nothing to choose from.
