Under what grounds does the Catholic Church prevent:
Female Priests, Married Priests, IVF, Embryo Experimentation. What biblical or papal evidence prevent these things. Feel free to express your personal opinions as well.

Most of it is based on tradition. No Females in the presbyterate is based upon traditional, cultural misogyny (as represented by Paul). A celibate presbyerate and episcopate is based upon tradition. (There is some valid scholastic argument that early leaders were married.)
I have no idea what "IVF" refers to. Embryo experimentation is more doctrinally-based than anything else.

And if you do Syphros, it is because in the Church's eyes how many cells are fertilized? How many are acutally born? It is almost a form of abortion.

1 in every 4 miscarry....presumably more IVF is no more a form of abortion than naturally occurring pregancies. and IVF has a very high risk for multiple births (twins, triplets ect..) because of the number of fertilized eggs being implanted int he serrogate. I don't know where thier doctrine states birth control is a sin, or stem cell research. but i understand they don't accept married priests because sex is a sin, and only those who are "pure" are acceptable? correct me if i am wrong.

![]() - Yes, birth control is a sin in the Catholic Church based on the grounds that when marriage partners meet in the act of sex, they should bring their entire unadulterated self and this includes their uncompromised fertilty. To contracept would be to essentially 'fix' what ain't broke - your fertility. - Priest and other religious don't marry not because sex is a sin (otherwise all us mother's and fathers out here would be in jepordy of hell LOL), but because they need to be focused on the work of the Lord as I believe Paul reccomended. They are essentially married to Christ and his Church and thus unavailable to 'marry' another human. - As far as invitro fertilization and other methods of conception outside of maritial relations, the Church condemns them. Again, because God is being left out of the bedroom by not using the traditional "natural" (for lack of a better word) methods of conception. Therefore there shouldn't be any embryos to test on. - Finally, to address the testing on theoretically existing embroyos enters the sanctity of life viewpoint held by the Church. From the moment of conception (remember, John the baptist lept in his mother's womb long before Mary's pregnancy test would have come back positive) until a natural death, all life is sacred and must be protected. Hope that covers it. Again, my personal opinions at this time slightly differ, but I believe that covers the Churches teachings accurately. Last edited by trinity2359; 04-21-2008 at 04:13 PM. |

Me neither. The Bible encourages sex between a married couple, but then again Catholics don't pay much attention to the Bible.

They prohibit married priest because they dont want the priest's to have families to give inheritance to. they want all the money for themselves. ![]() Trust me, they do not have any biblical evidence for whatever they are doing ![]()
