Christian/Catholic - Why...? (priests, tradition, birth control, hell, doctrine)

No Doubt! Us, biblically illerate Catholics only read the Bible at EVERY MASS and cover the entire Bible every three years! Just cause we don't thump the book over your head doesn't mean we don't use it! BTW - where did the Bible come from.... can we say the Catholic Church *ding, ding, ding *

tsk tsk! i am was catholic for 27 years my friend.

I led the rosary, was part of the legion of mary, was baptized when i was 4 months old, underwent first communion, went on retreats to undergo confession and the like, i was confirmed and slapped by the priest.

What else? we have images in our house that was given to my parents. aside from living in a predominantly catholic country.

First off, I would like to note that a celibate priesthood is a latin doctrine, not all of the Catholic Church is latin

That said, there is Biblical backing for the doctrine for example, in 1 Corinthian 7:1 Paul states that it is good for a man not to touch a woman...

You should have continued reading the chapter sir, it did not mean celibacy at all. By the way, Peter was married.

I've read it multiple times. It does mean celibacy. In 7:7 Paul wishes that all men were as he is(celibate). In 7:8 It is good for the unmarried and widows to abide as he does(be celibate)... but if you must, if you cannot contain your urges, get married(7:9). In 7:26 He says it is good for virgins to remain virgins. In 27 he says not to seek a wife if you are unmarried.

He goes on to talk about how the unmarried have only the Lord to give themselves to, while the married have to also consider their spouses and thus "careth for the things of the world".

In 35 Paul states that he writes not to snare, but that so you "may attend upon the Lord without distraction".

Ok, I am misunderstanding something. correct me if i am wrong, but isn't celibacy a mandatory vow for abstaining in sexual intercourse?

The keyword here is mandatory. if it is not, then i will agree that Paul indeed "adviced" celibacy. However, if the concept of celibacy is a mandatory vow as it is with Roman catholic priest, then Paul did Teach a mandatory celibacy.
