![]() I do not think there will ever be one religion. I think if we look at history--particularly recent history--we see an interesting phenomena that contradicts, in many ways, 18th-19th century predictions that modernizing, Westernizing processes will overcome cultural differences and melt cultural distinctions into one uniform "culture". We have seen that globalization is countered by localization, syncretism by anti-syncretism, modernism by fundamentalism, and ecumenism by dogmatism. Everywhere processes to erase distinctions arise, other processes intended to preserve cultural and religious identity, purity and authenticity counteract them. I think it doubtful, then, that humanity will ever be able to overcome cultural differences enough to form one world religion. We can learn to live peacefully, I think, but I don't think we'll ever get further than that.

IMO there will never be one religion. It is healthy to have different religions, different points of view, it's how we grow, and learn.
I don't think a peaceful world is relliant upon a combining of religions, but rather a refusal to use a specific religion to fuel ones hatred.
