It's been a long time since I've had that "icky" attitude. That was back in my youth when it really wasn't talked about. Now I just have a profound sympathy for them. There's a woman in our ward who is paranoid/schizophrenic and has no hope of ever recovering, or that her life will ever change or improve. Life is definately not fair. It's one of the reasons I cling to the gospel.

We don't want your sympathy.
Sympathy doesn't change anything. We want change, we want a bit more acceptance and we don't want to be looked down because of our sexual orientation. No, instead of sympathy, try empathy. Last edited by Bishka; 04-09-2008 at 05:54 PM. |

I am willing to give them empathy. If they want me to accept their lifestyle choice, I am sorry no can do. Practiced homosexuality is an abomination before the Lord. That is not homophobic, that is a spiritual truth. However, I do believe we can be tolerant of others and their beliefs, even if we agree to disagree.

Excellent stuff. Dialogue is always encouraged regardless of what each group hopes to get out of it. I hope this can become more regular than it has been in the past.

If it is impossible to be empathetic without experiencing it - why did you ask for empathy from those who have never experienced it???

Though I have not experiecned it personally, I know some people that fall into the gay category. I can be empathetic as a friend.
