There are two creations mentioned in the bible, the first is God's creation of the flesh with a spirit made into a living soul.

But because that soul was patterned after the image of God, to have the knowledge of Good and Evil meant that we would be as gods.

There can be but only one God and not many so the spirit which is in mankind was barred from heaven until such time the penalty was removed. (Death)

Jesus is the second Adam who in one day recreated the spiritual world for us by granting us God's own righteousness, and only through Him are we able to again access the Father without the death penalty.

Jesus then becomes a quickening spirit and gives life to our death spirits.

The cross is that symbol that cuts the time span between the old and the new as a cross between the old and the new.

Look unto it as a symbol of our salvation as it was there that God in Jesus saves he world.

I'd like to add to the above LDS opinion, if I may. We recognize the profound importance of Christ's death, that he was the ultimate sacrifice and he did it for us.

But the atonement--Christ taking upon himself our sins and suffering thus allowing us to be able to return to God, mostly took place in Gethsemane. The Bible really doesn't give the full picture of what happened there. This is were he suffered for our sins. This is where he literally bled through the pores of his skin. This was so physically and mentally traumatic that no mortal could have lived through it. This was the "cup" he wanted passed from him, but was willing to do it nevertheless. His death on the cross finished it.

He was willing to do this out of love for us. God had to watch his son suffer and die, because it was necessary to save all of mankind. How horrible, yet how wonderful. We owe him everything.

Hi starfish,

That was not an LDS opinion but my own.

And I do agree with you about the trauma Jesus went through.

The bible does give a good picture of all that Jesus was accomplishing that one day, mainly in the book of Revelation, which is about Jesus.

He was telling John while on the island of Potmos about the things which must "Shortly" come to happen, that is why John is seen as looking behind him to hear the message.

Peace>>>AJ

Yes, I meant the LDS opinion in post 189 when I responded to your post. Sorry, I wasn't clear. Thanks.
