Sorry, to both of you. I'm actually surprised to find that anyone noticed my mistake. Poeple are more interested than I thought! Anyway, if you are still interested, it seems that my error was in believing that the URL I gave was for the Crasna Monastery page when it was the main one. Apparently, clicking on one of those links doesn't actually redirect you to a new page at all.

So, if you are still interested in hearing the Trisagion as we sing it (though more skillfully performed) you need to go to the link in my last post, scroll down the page until you find a link that says:

Corul Sfintei Manastiri Crasna

(It's about 9 links down in the left hand column)

Click on that link and a new page (with a photo of the monastery church) should open. On this page find:

Sfanta Liturghie_7

Click on that link and you'll download an MP3, and Sfinte Dumnezeule will start after an Amin. (Incidentally, that page has almost the entire Divine Liturgy broken into separate files, but not all of the hymns are sung in the same tones that we use in our parish - and yes I did mean tone, it's not a typo for tune).

James

These chants are also very beautiful and great liturgical hymns. Thank you for sharing them.

I must be getting all ecumenical in my old age , very interesting James - i've only heard that type of thing in movies before. I listened to three of them but I only had the translation to the one you gave.

This is a song (a round, actually) and not a hymn, but it reflects my beliefs accurately.

Love, Love, Love, Love!
The Gospel in a Word is Love!
Love your neighbor as your brother!
Love, Love, Love, Love!

My next fave song is taken from Scripture.

I have been crucified with Christ
Nevertheless I live,
Yet not I, But Christ
Who liveth in me!
And the life that I now live in the flesh
I live by faith in the Son of God
Who loved me, and gave himself for me!

BTW, Ode to Joy and Amazing Grace are also great!

Well, if you want translations of any of the others, just let me know. It's not as though I even have to do any work - they've all been translated already (in fact there's a site where you can get just about any Byzantine Chant you like translated into both KJV style and modern English and set to all the various tones - Byzantine chant works differently to western music but a tone is kind of like a scale and then all the notation is relative rather than absolute, unlike western musical notation.)

That is a good one and the words were written by the woman who wrote Blessed Assurance (Fanny J. Crosby)

Oh I love the words.
That Hymn is so beautiful, i'll always love it. These hymns of ours are so precious and timeless it is a tragedy that they are so neglected in todays churches and have been replaced with too much of the pop style choruses, we need a strong balance I think.

This hymn stayed with me my whole life from the time I heard it as an eight year old, all through my very wayward teenage years:

Love lifted me, especially this verse:
I was sinking deep in sin,
Far from the peaceful shore,
Very deeply stained within,
Sinking to rise no more;
But the Master of the sea
Heard my despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me,
Now safe am I.

I never forgot and never stopped believing that Jesus could save me, He was always my hope for salvation because hymns like this proclaim the gospel to you in a very personal way. I believe this played a part in my conversion as a 21 year old as well as all the seeds that were sown by gospel preachers.
