Do you think the Indigo Children Movement has some substance or is it a farce?

How did the movement get started?

The term comes from an aura reader named Nancy Ann Tappe. According to her we are in the "indigo age" where people with indigo auras will be the norm.
There's also a book written by Lee Carroll called "Indigo Children", but most of his information comes from an entity named "Kryon" that he channels. Personally I think the reason for this is that parents are sick of giving thier kids ritalin at the drop of a hat. But, this is NOT the solution to the problem. Instead of treating them lke they're some sort of special needs child (either with Ritalin or this Indigo crap), why not just treat them like they're normal? I have a good idea why so may kids are diagnosed with ADD now - because we live in a world where stress is the norm, and as soon as you start school it's better to be busy than doing nothing. Parents ship thier kids off to every activity they can pay for and don't give thier kids time to just be kids. It's a normal response to the stresses tha kids are exposed to. Telling these kids that they have special powers is supposed to help them? I would be willing to bet that 20 years from now all these kids who's parents convinced them that they see angels are going to wind up in therapy taking prozac. I'm also disturbed at the implication that such a feeling of entitlement and anti-social behavior in kids and teens is something to be nurtured. Attitude is one thing, every kids has attitude, but you run the extreme risk of raising a bloody narcissist if you convince you're kid that not only is it a good thing to feel like they're better than everyone else, but that they actually are. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that everyone should be the same and we shouldn't instill self-worth and confidence in children, but there's a difference between self worth and entitlement. And, I'm not all that convinced that this "indigo children" thing is an altruistic endevor by some New Age folk - our friend with the book advocates for giving them an alternative to ritalin (an algae pill manufactured by a company called "celltech"). Eons ago, I remember reading that while treating 'disabled' children as one would a 'normal' child helps them, treating 'gifted' (boy, someone's going to go on a quotation mark overdose due to me
) kids differently seems to help them. I wonder if that is at all related to the Indigo Children movement. As Llama said, however, encouraging kids to think that they're more entitled to something than others is only asking for trouble. Unless a child were to realize on their own that people deserve things equally, I would imagine that leading a child to believe otherwise would only encourage a lack of empathy.
