Catholics and Mormons (Jesus Christ, priest, reject, Earth, gospel)

I find it interesting that these two churches are working alot lately, which probably scares the crap out of Baptists lol j/k, but i was wondering if a LDS could tell me the similarities between your church and mine. Also i saw a article that said we are the biggest growing, but you guys are the fastest growing or something. But soon you guys might make it to our numbers lol

you can look at the articles of faith that the lds church believes in:

Well, I know a few things that we have in common.

1. We both believe that Christ is the Savior.
2. We both believe that God's Church as a definied organization with established offices
3. We both believe that you must have God's authority (priesthood) in order to administer ordinances (what you call sacraments)
4. We both believe the Bible to be the word of God.
5. We both believe in regular church attendance.
6. We're both anti-abortion
7. We both have strong family values
8. We both belive in the Second Coming of Christ
9. We both believe in doing good to all men

I'm sure there're more, but these are all I can think of right now.

at our branch we had a missionary fire side, and invited a catholic priest about ash and palm. it was a good discussion and the thing that he made the point of hammering (by saying it allot) is that Christ is dead and will stay dead... i don't believe it but is that what most Catholics believe in? (i know not all believe that Christ is dead i have a friend that believes Christ is alive and she is a catholic, and she is also suppressed that the lds church believes in Christ... no comment on this one...lol)

Yeah, probably!

i was wondering if a LDS could tell me the similarities between your church and mine.

Here are the main ones, in my opinion.

We both believe that authority from God is necessary to lead His Church. In other words, we both reject the concept of "priesthood of all believers." Both our churches are led by a man whom we believe has been divinely chosen and holds the same power that Peter once did.

We both reject the doctrine of Sola Scriptura. While you rely on tradition, we rely on continuing revelation.

We both reject the doctrine of Sola Fide. We don't believe that we are saved by grace through faith alone, but by grace through faith and works. Along with this, we both look at salvation as more of a process and less of a one-time event.

We both have all seven of the original sacraments, although admittedly, they vary some from each other and are not known by the same names.

We both feel that even though our respective churches represent the same Church Jesus Christ personally established, we consider all people to be Christians who believe themselves to be Christians. We both want to work together for the common good of all, but have no desire to change our doctrines to fit in with anyone else.

We both feel a communion and continued relationship with our dead. You pray to Saints and ask that they petition God to free the dead from Purgatory and we perform proxy baptisms on the part of our dead ancestors. These things may not seem to be very close at all, but we are probably the only two chuches who believe that the living can do anything at all for the dead. My personal feelings are that the Catholic belief in Purgatory and the LDS belief in the Spirit World are probably related.

Obviously, there are other things we have in common, but they are things that we also both have in common with the Protestants, so I didn't mention them.

Well, there have been some pretty bold predictions made concerning our growth during the coming century. It has been said that we are well on our way to becoming the world's next major religion. However, considering that you guys now number over 1 billion, and we're a measly 12 million, I don't see us catching up any time soon!

Interesting reading about the similarities between these two religions. Me, I don't have a religion, I simply have a relationship. Jesus loves me and there's nothing I can do about it. Amazing love, how can it be? I am just glad that it is.

Well Catholicism is both a religion and a relationship. We have a deeper relationship to Christ because of the Eucharist. Also why do you assume religion is bad? God is a God of order and he proves that in things he creats like the solar SYSTEM, the ecoSYSTEM, and even our immune SYSTEM. But Christs love is amazing indeed

I believe that Squirt described the similarities pretty good and I don't have anything to add to it.

I do want to say that I think that it's good when any two religions can put aside their doctrinal differences, focus on the similarities, and work together to do good. I'm glad the LDS church has been working with the Catholic church.

Distinction without a difference for us. The Church is the Body of Christ. You have a relationship with the Church, you have a relationship with Christ.

It certainly is nice to work with LDS on charitable deeds.....love you guys....
