In addition to all of the bad things you all have mentioned, young men are victims as well. The elders in the community will often kick out the young men because they are seen as competition since the older men want younger and more numerous wives. They are kicked out with nothing - no education and very little knowledge of society outside of the compound. You would think that if God intended men to have three or four wives He would have designed us more intelligently, ie: to average three or four female births for every male. The present 1:1 ratio can't help but create a huge pool of "surplus" males.

Agreed. The same exact problems exist in monogamous marriages. It's a problem with what is believed in that group.
