Except to watch out for hurricanes, I don't really watch the news, or read the paper any more. The kids usually have control of the TV, which is fine by me. It's just a noisy box.
If I do get to watch any news in the morning, I only watch the Daily Buzz. They are a very laid back, funny news team. I like watching them because they actually seem to enjoy their job. My sister and her husband used to watch Naked News on their computer, I never got into it, but thought it was a pretty funny idea. Women getting naked while they tell you about a train wreck that killed hundreds of people. I guess if you had to get bad news, that would be one way to soften the blow. |

NPR and if I hear anything I want to know more about, I'll go scour the internet. Huh...wonder if that's why my incoming e-mail is awash in spam from porn sites.

Online:
The Guardian (London), London Times, CNN, Al Jazeera and BBC. Also browse specific articles from other publications mentioned on radio or print publications. Radio: NPR -- the news and commentary programs. Air America Radio. Subscription: US News & World Report and The Nation newsmagazines. TV: I'll watch the first 15 or 20 minutes or so of the evening network news sometimes, but, of course, this is more entertainment than serious news. I often watch some of the dedicated news and interview shows. My current favorite is Now. Charlie Rose often has some pretty interesting guests as well, and BBC World is interesting. I listen to NPR on my drive to and from work everyday.
On the internet, I usually just go to news.google.com and read the stuff they have on there. Google gives you quite a wide variety of news sources to read from, so you can get a lot of perspectives. I used to get the washington post and nytimes sent to my inbox but that started getting old after a while. I also have a button on my browser called stumble that takes me to random websites (which is how I found this one) and from there I read the different articles on those websites. Oh ya, the State News here at MSU and the Lansing State Journal.

When I find an issue /topic which I feel is interesting or important enough, I like to look at as many sources as possible, foreign, domestic, right, left, inbetween, fringe etc, pour all that information into a giant "mind" trough, the drip that comes from gallons by seperation of the wheat from the chaff will hopefully lead on to the most likely truth, this seperation must be done in as much of a non-judgemental way as possible.
IMO, No one or a few news sources will or can give the full truth nor can we come to it since we aren't there at the event, but media is the windows to the world outside our perceptions, therefore the more perceptions we can get the better, by processing loads of information and distilling it, the better understanding we will have a whatever topic we are interested in and our world which inevitably affects our political stances. Or I could just come home from working a twelve hour shift, crack a beer and watch CNN or Fox and get the world in a nutshell in 20 minutes- but that isn't my way (still crack my beers though) , no matter what you do make more of an effort than those who attempt to control you whether conciously or subconciously (products of their culture, and or ratings hounds skewing news reports to appeal to the crowd they are targetting to turn a buck to stay on the air). But what do I know, I'm just a simple redneck.

Mostly just local news if I'm going to read a newspaper. Other than that my preference is for eye-witness accounts, unabridged if possible.

I check Yahoo! News (which is basically a collection of AP reports with a sprinkling of a few other stories) every day, no matter how busy I am.
Most days I also check the BBC, Aljazeera, and the Boston Globe. If I really have some time on my hands, I'll check the Council on Foreign Relations, Spiegel, The Hill, Planet Out News, and whatever else seems good at the moment. I like Le Monde, but French is difficult for me, and it requires some time to puzzle out what they're saying. (French people talk funny.) I have a page with a bunch of links so I can mix up my news sources a bit -- I think that's important -- but I never check all of them on a single day. I have a particular affection for the The Scotsman, which I read as much for pleasure as for the news. If I'm looking for news on a particular story, Google News is my first stop. Quote:
![]() EDIT: Oh, and I check the obituaries every day in ten different local papers. Genealogist, you know, and have to try to keep up with which of my fifth cousins are still with us.

Time Magazine Los Angeles Times The Oregonian The Register-Guard And every once in awhile, the TV. Don't watch the tube hardly ever. |
