That was a big thing if you are a little older. It is a fascinating read if you have time. Jim Jones in a nutshell ran a religious establishment that was sorta secretive and brought in a large amount of older people. He moved his church and people to Guyana and is alleged to have told them to cut contact with their families. When concern mounted from those back home in America he became more defensive and in a climax told killed his own followers...hundreds of them by forcing many to drink posion punch or shooting them. Jones was killed too but it was not determined how. I think a few survived the massacre but it has been a case study and a model for the sociology world for a while on negative religious influence on communities.
