Ok, but the OP said that it "remains largely unexplored", so isn't it a bit premature to come to so certain a conclusion before everything is studied?

The portion called the Inner Sanctum is quite huge and of course the most important part of the site. Yet, there are many tunnels that have been graphed .. including the River Styx which was explored (I think) by a US Navy seal. I'll have to check to make sure. I'll show you what the researchers are thinking so far about the Inner Sanctum. That part of the site is very important becuase it has accesses to all the other parts.. sort of a central station.

"My own feeling is that there must be access areas to the Oracle from the level below, the existence of which we have found convincing evidence (though without being able to break through to it, as we had no permission from the authorities to undertake any explorations that might involve making holes or digging). I am convinced, however, that there is a level beneath the two we explored, and that it is far more extensive than the upper levels. The Romans may have excavated their earth and rubble there, brought it out through the Inner Sanctum, and then finally filled the Sanctum and walled up its three visible doorways, thereby sealing off their source of earth and rubble, as well as any tunnels leading to the lowest level of the complex. If funds could be found, I believe that the Italian authorities would agree to the complex being cleared of earth and rubble to enable us to study its structure more closely. This would mean that the Inner Sanctum would be cleared so that we could see what lies beyond it, and indeed what lies buried within it (which might include wood that could be carbon-dated). Finally, a genuine excavation could be undertaken in order to try to break through the bottom level of the complex, thereby revealing the entire truth about the Oracle of the Dead and enabling us to form a complete opinion about it."
