fwiw, Gwinett is right next door to my country, and I think it's the county where CaptainXeroid lives. See why, in the "What RE should be taught in schools?" thread, I said NO WAY could you even teach a survey of religions here??? This is the kind of crap we would have to work with. ![]() |

Just more silliness... I doubt it is harming sales.
Here's some great information on banned books: http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/bannedboo...dbooksweek.htm |

Some of the best books out there are the ones that have been banned. I can't even think of why some were. One of my favorite books of all time from childhood was "Bridge to Terabithia" which I only recently found out has been banned. Why on EARTH I have NO IDEA!
Edit: I found out why...and it still makes no sense. Quote:

IMHO, this is a sad day for those of us who believe Harry Potter evilly teaches impressionable children to wear glasses, even when they are not required. I see the series as secretely sponsored by the International Conspiracy of Wiccan Eye Doctors (ICWED, pronounced: Icy-Wed). Remember, you can always trust Uncle Sunstone to give you the straight inside scoop! Write your representatives today!

The first Harry Potter book actually did make it on a local banned books list, many years back. I wish I was making suck idiocy up, but I clearly remember a picture of that book, with some others, on a table with a yellow "CAUTION - DO NOT CROSS" banner around the table.
Its sad to see some classics, such as Mark Twain, being banned. And them some novels that show the reader how it was, like To Kill A moking Bird, that is a shame. And then to ban things that are clearly not for minors, such as Madonna's Sex, or anything by Piers Anthony, is just ignorant. I am curious as to why the Goosebumps series was challenged. It is more occultic, and has more real occult related things than Harry Potter, but me and all my friends that read it never believed in the Occult, witchcraft, etc. Surprised The Stand isn't on the challenged list as picky as it seems to be.

It's interesting, the Christians who want these books banned have obviously never read it, and like you said Goosebumps was more occult then anything else.

Harry Potter is about the best thing that has happened to childhood literacy in a long time. I'm not saying that every child should read it, but the fact that so many want to is a very good thing.
