I've always kind of thought of him being beyond any sort of sexual nature. It should 'spark outrage' if someone tried to say Jesus was straight, too.

Or maybe that's just my opinion.

The idea that guys can't be close without having something sexual going on has always annoyed me, I gotta say...beyond that, heck, people have always thought what they wanted about the guy, this is pretty much that.

This is an excellent example of projection. It occurs when a person projects their desires, personality, or philosophy onto something or someone else. We see it in every point of history with respect to Jesus. Everyone who is attracted to Him wants to project their characteristics onto His character. The liberals want him to be like them, and Lord knows the fundamentalists want Him to be like them.

I think the point here is, some believe he could have been. Just as some believe there is a good possibility he was married. I personally don't know, and don't care either way. But I think it forces people to think about how Jesus would have treated homosexuals, and some think that doesn't jive with the way the are treated or perceived to be treated by some Christian organization.

I agree with feathers on that one. That's why you can be Christian and have buddhist philosophies, the alienation of desire is also a Christian concept.

there's a fine point that many miss- members of the same sex showing affection or love for one another does not mean that there is sex or sexual feelings involved and therefor, technically, these relationships are not homosexual. what our society understands as "gay" or "straight", another society that existed two thousand years ago and halfway across the globe likely would not. we do know that Jesus was very close to his male disciples, and that he was especially fond of the disciple John. does this make Jesus gay? only if we blindly apply our own 20th Century, Western social standards to relationships of 1st century Palestine.

I think Robinson should just chill out awhile.
He`s already caused an extreme uproar with his own position, enough to split his denomination.

This type of talk is not a good political move.
Those that support him will soon begin to wonder why they support him and rightly so.
