"I come not to bring peace, but a sword."
You have to remember that Jesus was come to bring His kingdom, but the Jewish religious leaders at the time were still expecting a Messiah that would build an earthly Kingdom, not a spiritual one. Jesus cam to shake things up, so to speak, and turn the then religious world upside down. To do so would require many change and an end to the peaceful existence amongst jews. Also, it is important to remember that the "sword of the spirit" is the word of God, and it would be by effectively woelding this sword that do God's duty and conduct our SPIRITUAL warfare. Hope this helps. |

No Soul,
People react differently to the truth. My mom disowned me and became an athiest when I converted. She even went so far as to call my University and complained vehemently to the Dean of Admissions. She had no idea he was an elder at the church I was converted at. But the point of it is, when you turn from your former life, many take offense at your decision. While you may finally at peace with God, your friends and family may lash out in an effort to get you to "de-convert". Does this happen to EVERYONE? No, but true conversions are noticeable and can cause a lot of friction. Brother Whitehead gave me some great advice that day. Primary was to NOT preach to my family. Just to let my life speak for itself. I try to make my "evangelism" very understated because of this. The best sermon is the one that is seen and not heard. ![]()

You are twisting the scripture. Kind of ridiculously as well. How can love seem like hate no matter how it compares to another love? Quote:
It says there will be war and Christ will lead the charge. Quote:
I don`t believe it is but I don`t have the book in front of me right now. Soul, Be careful taking others understanding of any written text as truth especially when dealing with the religious scripture of any sect. You can read and unless there is some horrid mistranslation you should understand the words as written in context.

Is that in context with the mentioned quote? ""I come not to bring peace, but a sword."

Try a more contemporary version of the Bible...
Luke 14.26 26You cannot be my disciple, unless you love me more than you love your father and mother, your wife and children, and your brothers and sisters. You cannot come with me unless you love me more than you love your own life. Matthew 10.34 34Don't think that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came to bring trouble, not peace. |

How is this version superior to a version that actually translates the text to the closest original?

In context? No. The peace/sword quote is Matt 10:34. Not sure if that's what you are looking for, but there ya go! |
