Okay, so where's the meanness in this sentence?

Maybe it's going a little far to say that all Pagans hate to be misunderstood, but it's entirely true that a lot "buy into" things. I've seen a lot of people who tell me their Pagans who have absolutely no idea what Paganism really is, and just thought it'd be a nice title to go with all their black clothing. It could definitely be argued that these people aren't really Pagans, but that's going beyond the question.

So I ask again, what has been said that has earned the word "bigot" to be utter so many times?

I do not speak for all, but for my own posts, when I wrote the term "bigot" it was not directed at the author of that sentence, but at the actual fanatical idealist bigots that do the things I've previously mentioned in my posts.

I realize that . But to some { non-pagans } it is the same thing , horns or not . All that I was trying to say there is that Herne is a prime excample of people jumping to conclusions .

I think it has to do with believing people of another faith are misguided, or implying that they know less than you. The use of the word 'bigot' is rather extreme, and I prefer to use it only when someone has repeatedly used such phrases. I don't think there was any inherent meanness in that sentence, but many pagans have gotten used to the idea that their religion is viewed with sceptisism and ridicule by some, and have naturally formed a knee-jerk reaction. Those that are ignorant enough to equate Satanism with those that follow other branches of paganism usually tend to be arrogant enough to think that we are all misguided. (Again, as Kreeden noted, this is not to say that some don't find Truth in Satanism.)

Faunus, Pan and so on and so forth.
The christian satan is a mish-mash of many faiths ideas. Got a religion you don't like, make one or more of thier gods into 'satan'.
