If you had a spiritual experience in which God commanded you to do something, would you do it? Are there limitations on which commands you would obey? If so, why would you question God's judgment?
EDIT: For those who don't believe in a personal god: If some truth or insight was revealed to you through a spiritual experience in which you realized that you must do something, would you do it? Are there limitations on which things you would do? If so, why would you question the validity of the spiritual experience? Last edited by CarlinKnew; 04-22-2009 at 09:42 AM.. |

How would I know it was God?

By using whatever method you used to determine that your other spiritual experiences were valid.

Well, I don't believe in deities, so it would have to be some damn good evidence. Otherwise, I would just think I've gone nuts and check myself into a mental hospital.

Based on my own experience with what other human animals refer to as "god", yes, there is a limitation. That limitation is when said amorphous being commands anything whatsoever. I would tend to take a very hard, long, cold look at any individual who suggests otherwise.

If I was absolutely convinced that something was God, and this God told me to do something, it would be pretty stupid not to do it - no matter what it was. I don't think I'd spit in the face of the all powerful being who created me, the universe, and everything in it. If it told me to do something, it's got a reason for doing so - and I'd be in no position to refuse.
