I'll echoe Netdoc's sentiments. Pride is exalting oneself at the expense of others or God, putting you above them in any way. Knowing that you did good, well, there's nothing wrong with that unless it leads to that artificial exaltation.
Both of these result from pride: A man walks up to another and demands total obedience, even with the authority to do so... A man steals one of his friend's DVDs. In both cases, the guy exalts himself as better than others. If, however, you help an old lady across the street in busy traffic, and you feel good about yourself, that is not pride. That is being a decent human being.

YOUR pride, if YOU choose to UNDERSTAND and develop it, should BE for everything and everyONE. This is the considerate and NATURAL way to handle pride and share it. To use pride needlessly by furthering YOUR own causes and methods is an example of abusing pride. NO ONE IS BETTER THAN ANOTHER ONE. You should treat each other fairly with LOVE and consideration. This is what many learn after death. Many spiritual entities have realized at many moments they have felt pride to later discover these feelings to BE unfounded, that it may have impeded their spiritual growth. When it comes to BEing proud, pride is best served when it is served to everyONE. No ONE should reward pride unless everyONE receives the benefits.

Great question. I seem to have many things to say. Bear with me.
Pride can sometimes overwhelm some people. If one begins to feel like, " I'm all that, and then some," then pride has taken over. If one starts to view most others as less than ones self, in ability, compassion, or actions, then there is a problem of a self serving nature. Sometimes I have wondered who I am trying to please when I do something wonderful to help someone and I don't tell anyone. For me, I have come to the conclusion that I do it to please God, and just for my pure enjoyment at the act of helping another soul, without their knowing. Try it sometime man, you will fee like you have sprouted wings! I am alone in the world, so when I come home , there is no one to talk with. God has shared Himself with me in such a way that I feel very comfortable talking with Him on a regular basis. When I do something that I think is really great I say, " Thanks Father for allowing me to receive this impulse to help someone." "That was way cool, no?" " What are we going to do next?" My God inspires me to be helpful. He inspires me to find joy in being helpful. I can't take pride in something God created in me. It is not of me, but it is what He placed in my heart and soul. I am truly thankful, for my joy overwhelms me often. Praise to my Creator. There is nothing wrong with being proud of yourself for taking the inititive to do something good and wonderful. The sin of pride comes in when we make others feel guilty for not having done something similar; when we belittle another soul. Joyfully , Martha
